Correspondence, diaries (and transcriptions of some excerpts of his 1854 writings), reminiscences and other writings, genealogical charts, and military documents (including records of his army dismissal proceedings), 1839-1897. Also includes a reminiscence by Henrietta M. Haller, Granville Haller's wife, which includes genealogical information back to 1642 and describes the Haller family's trip around Cape Horn to California and later Oregon and Washington. Major correspondents include Henrietta Maria Haller, Edward Jenner Steptoe, the U.S. Army, and the Meigs Lumber and Shipbuilding Company.

United States Army officer, Washington State pioneer and businessman, Granville Owen Haller (1819-1897) was born in York, Pennsylvania, the last of five children. Haller served in the Seminole War and the Mexican War, and attained the rank of captain before he was stationed in the Pacific Northwest, where he actively fought Native Americans in the 1854 campaign against the Snake Indians and the 1855 Winnass Expedition.
